Beacon

Know the minute a site goes down

Beacon checks every website, certificate and cron job we run, around the clock. When something breaks you get an email within a couple of minutes, and clients see a calm status page instead of an error.

Why Beacon

One quiet tool that watches every site we run

Websites, APIs, certificates and backups in one list, checked every minute. You only hear from it when something actually needs you.

See it in action

Give every client a status page

Pick the monitors a client cares about and share one link. They see live status and 90 days of uptime, never the addresses or error messages behind it.

Confirmed, then alerted

A failure has to repeat before anyone gets an email, so blips don't wake you up.

The incident closes itself, you get a "back up" email and uptime history keeps score.

Questions the team will ask

How quickly will I hear about an outage?

Most monitors are checked every minute. A failure is re-checked within 20 seconds, so with the default of two failed checks in a row you'll usually get the email within one to two minutes.

Who gets the alerts?

Everyone on the Team page. Each person gets one email when a monitor goes down and one when it comes back, never a stream of repeats.

What counts as down?

No answer before the timeout, an error status (4xx or 5xx), a missing keyword, a certificate that is invalid or close to expiry, or a cron job that didn't check in on time.

What can clients see on a status page?

The names you give the monitors, whether each is up right now, and daily uptime for the last 90 days. Addresses and error messages stay private.

What if the server running Beacon goes down?

Beacon can ping an outside service every minute. If the pings stop, that service emails you, so even a dead server gets noticed.

How long is history kept?

Every individual check is kept for 30 days. Daily uptime totals and incidents are kept for good.

Watch everything.
Sleep anyway.
